Jakarta Green Spine: Reimagining the Sudirman–Kuningan Corridor for a More Resilient Future


As Jakarta celebrates its journey toward five centuries as a capital city, conversations about climate resilience, public space, and sustainable mobility have become increasingly important. The Jakarta Green Spine initiative presents a long-term urban vision that explores how existing city infrastructure can contribute to a greener, healthier, and more connected Jakarta.

The conceptual study focuses on the Sudirman–Kuningan Corridor, where approximately 125 hectares of interconnected green infrastructure could gradually enhance urban resilience through parks, tree canopy, water-sensitive landscapes, and climate-responsive public spaces.

The concept also explores how future mobility systems, including the proposed NUSA FLOW Urban Water Network, could complement existing transportation such as MRT, LRT, KRL, and TransJakarta, creating a more integrated multimodal city.

Rather than replacing Jakarta’s existing infrastructure, Jakarta Green Spine proposes working alongside it—strengthening environmental performance while improving public accessibility and quality of life.

Potential long-term benefits explored within the conceptual study include:

  • Expanded urban green space

  • Improved rainwater management

  • Reduction of urban heat island effects

  • Better pedestrian and cycling connections

  • New public recreation spaces

  • Support for climate adaptation strategies

  • Opportunities for sustainable urban mobility

  • Enhancement of the city’s environmental identity

The initiative is currently positioned as an independent conceptual and pre-feasibility initiative, intended to support future discussions with government institutions, experts, universities, investors, and community stakeholders. Any implementation would require comprehensive technical studies, environmental assessments, regulatory review, and approval by the relevant authorities.

As Jakarta approaches its 500th anniversary, visionary ideas that integrate ecology, mobility, and public space can contribute to shaping a more resilient metropolitan future.
