MINISTER WIDYANTI PUTRI CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN INDONESIA’S TOURISM AS A NATIONAL ECONOMIC DRIVERTourism contributes hundreds of trillions of rupiah to Indonesia’s economy while creating jobs, supporting local businesses, and strengthening Indonesia’s global competitiveness.

JAKARTA — Indonesia’s tourism sector continues to demonstrate strong economic performance under the leadership of Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana. According to information highlighted by KBR Sumbar, tourism remains one of the country’s fastest-growing sectors and continues to make an important contribution to national economic development.

During the first quarter of 2026, tourism contributed approximately Rp309.36 trillion, equivalent to around 5 percent of Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), reinforcing its role as one of the country’s key economic sectors.

Foreign exchange earnings from tourism also reached a record USD 18.27 billion in 2025, reflecting growing international interest in Indonesia as a global travel destination.

Tourism Creates Jobs and Supports Local Communities

Throughout 2025, tourism events generated an estimated Rp23.76 trillion in economic circulation while supporting millions of visitors, thousands of creative workers, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

Government data also highlights continued growth in Indonesia’s Tourism Villages (Jadesta) program, with more than 6,200 tourism villages registered nationwide. Several villages have also received international recognition through UN Tourism’s Best Tourism Villages programme.

Wellness and Sustainable Tourism Continue to Grow

Indonesia continues to strengthen its position as Southeast Asia’s largest wellness tourism market.

Growing public interest in healthy lifestyles, nature, and sustainable travel has expanded opportunities for eco-tourism, cultural tourism, and outdoor destinations across the archipelago.

The government has also continued promoting connectivity, destination development, and tourism ecosystems to encourage regional economic growth.

International Recognition

Indonesia’s tourism achievements include recognition in Muslim-friendly tourism, culinary promotion, geoparks, and sustainable destination development.

The Ministry of Tourism also maintained its Unqualified Opinion (WTP) from Indonesia’s Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), reflecting consistent financial governance.
