MEET OUR TEAM
Who helps Jakarta Green Spine?
We are a group of water experts, city planners, and local helpers. We work together to keep Jakarta safe from floods. Our goal is to connect smart engineering with the people living in every neighborhood.

Dian Sastrowardoyo
Planning Leader
Dian has worked for ten years on city plans. She talks with the government to make sure we build more green spaces for everyone.

Budi Hartono
Water Expert
Budi studies how water flows. He makes sure our green projects really work to fix the rivers and stop big floods from happening.

Siti Aminah
Neighborhood Friend
Siti works with people in their own backyards. She helps neighbors learn how to take care of nature and lead local changes.

Facts & Figures
Jakarta is sinking up to 30 cm per year and there is no space to absorb the heavy rain send from Bogor
1 HAÂ OF PARK = 10,000 -15,000 m3 water absortion

RUBBISH & POLUTED WATER
Our canal is polluted as there are many rubbish which causes the flood to increase
BLOCK PIPE
Our canal is polluted as there are many rubbish which causes the flood to increase
DENSE POPULATION
Not enough green space and dense populationÂ
TRAFFIC
There are not enough integrated transport system that is eco friendly
CITY SINKING
Jakarta drops about 30 cm every year due to rising seas and taking too much water from under the ground

Meeting the Standard: Green Space Reality
WHO Minimum
9 m²
The global essential minimum per person for mental and physical health
Healthy City Range
15 - 50 m²
The standard for cities optimized for climate resilience and air quality.
Jakarta Today
< 2.5 m²
Jakarta is significantly behind, but the Green Spine aims to bridge this gap.

A Future Worth Investing In
The data shows a challenge, but the vision shows a solution. By reinvesting in our blue-green infrastructure, Jakarta can transform from a flood-prone concrete sprawl into a resilient urban sanctuary. Every square meter of green space we recover is an investment in our shared breathable future.
Jakarta is a Sinking Bowl

5 cm
Without natural green spaces to act as a sponge, Jakarta’s bowl-like shape traps rainwater and sea levels, leaving the city defenseless against increasing floods.
The 125 km Sudirman Corridor Solution
The system must start with a 125 km Sudirman climate corridor that stores flood water from Bogor to keep the Ciliwung River stable. This ‘sponge city’ idea is already used in other countries.

Our Jakarta Green Story

Jakarta Green Spine wants to bring nature back to our city. We use plants and parks to stop floods. We turn old canals into beautiful paths for water and people. By working with nature and neighbors, we are making a better and happier city for everyone to live in.
Watch how a sinking Jakarta can turn into a 125 km green spine that stores floods, cools the city, and protects our future.
Our Main Projects

Fixing Water Paths
We find old water paths and turn them into green parks. This helps water move slowly, keeps it clean, and gives people a nice place to sit and play.
Better Travel
We fix streets so it is easy to walk or bike. We add plants next to the road to help soak up rain water and keep the city cool.

Local Programs
We help neighbors build gardens and small farms. This way, the people who live here are the ones who lead and take care of the green spaces.
Our Magazine
We share simple stories and fun ideas about the environment. We make it easy for everyone in Jakarta to understand how we can help our city.

Our Goal
Jakarta Green Spine wants to make our city a safe place. We believe that using nature can turn scary floods into pretty green parks for all of us.
Stopping the Floods
We use smart water plans and natural paths to help keep the rain from flooding our homes and streets.
Bringing Back Nature
We plant trees and flowers. This makes the air cleaner and gives animals a place to live in the city.
Helping Neighbors
We work with local families. We teach them how to look after their parks and be leaders for nature.
Fixing the Heart of Jakarta
Jakarta Green Spine is a group that helps our city handle water better. We work on rivers, roads, and parks. We want to make a city where nature and people live happily together in a clean and safe home.
Green Space Matters
Jakarta falls significantly short of the WHO standard of 9 sqm of green space per person. Investing in green infrastructure is not just about beauty; it is essential to prevent urban sinking, mitigate severe flooding, and ensure our community's health.

Meeting WHO Standards
We advocate for increasing open space to meet global health standards for a more livable city.
Natural Flood Defense
Green spaces act as sponges, absorbing rainfall to protect our homes from seasonal flooding.
A Healthier Jakarta
Increasing our tree canopy reduces heat and air pollution, making every breath safer for us.

Work With Us
Working Together for a Change
We love this work because this city is our true home
We connect the city leaders with the people living here. By working with the government and local friends, we make big plans happen. We care about this work because we live here too. We want our children to have a city that is healthy and full of nature. Your help lets us build these green paths in every neighborhood for everyone to enjoy.
